2010 Red Sox Pitching Outlook

February 2010

Most MLB teams this year will be jealous of the Red Sox’s starting rotation of Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Clay Buscholtz. Beckett, Lester, and Lackey could easily all be aces on a lot of teams in the Majors with all three capable of making runs at the Cy Young this year. Matsuzaka won 18 games in 2008, but had a down season last year with his ERA ballooning up to 5.76 in 2009. Should Matsuzaka recapture his good form than American League batters will be in a lot of trouble this year. Buscholtz will likely round out the lineup and last season he went 7-4 last season and is looking to take a big step forward in 2010. The bullpen will be lead by knuckle-baller Tim Wakefield (who went 11-5 as a starter in 2009) and dominant closer Jonathan Papelbon. If the Red Sox offense can perform better than last year, expect Boston to have a better season. The Red Sox pitching staff is talented, experienced, and deep. Here’s hoping they light up pitching mounds all season long.

Daisuke Matsuzaka

January 2010

There is a controversy that has just arisen about Matsuzaka. He’s been with the Red Sox for awhile now, but it is unfortunate that he didn’t let them know the extent of his injuries last spring after the World Baseball Classic. There were a few suggestions that the team needed to check him out a little bit more. Apparently in an interview to a Japanese magazine, Daisuke Matsuzaka said that he was a little bit hurting, or something like that. The Boston Red Sox just found out about it and they aren’t so happy about it. They will be talking to him, his agent, and many other characters in this event. They want to know if communication broke down and, if so, how.

Daisuke puts an end to the losing streak

May 2008

The Red Sox made a great comeback after their losing streak by winning against the Milwaukee Brewers in the first game at Fenway Park on Saturday. Brewers were playing their first match in 11 years at Fenway and lost the match for 5-3.  With this win Daisuke Matsuzaka, the starter of Boston Red Sox, became the seventh player to reach seven wins without any loss so far in the season. He improved his position to 7-0 with an ERA 2.15. He played 6 2/3 innings and gave up two unearned runs in seven hits. Though Dice –K was not at his best on Saturday, he was able to satisfy the Red Sox fans.
