July 2010

Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Dustin Pedoria, David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre, and Victor Martinez will represent the Boston Red Sox in the 2010 MLB All Star game in Anaheim, CA. Although no Red Sox made the AL starting roster, we should see a lot of our guys out there on Tuesday night. Ortiz will participate in the the MLB Home Run Derby. It’s amazing that Adrian Beltre isn’t starting for the AL after a terrific first half of the season. The third baseman is hitting .330 with 55 RBI’s thus far this season, but Evan Longoria got the nod. The biggest Red Sox All Star snubs would include Kevin Youkilis and Jonathan Papelbon. The Red Sox head into the All Star Break five games behind the Yankees in the AL Central. Hopefully the break will allow the Red Sox to recharge there engines for the rest of the season.

It might be difficult to take away any positives after last night Red Sox loss to the Colorado Rockies 8-6. Jonathan Papelbon gave up three runs in the ninth inning to give Rockies the win in Denver. The lead separating the Sox and the division leading Yankees is only 2.5 games, and no one is driving in runs in the Majors like Boston. David Ortiz has got his groove back with 15 RBI’s to his name this month, while Adrian Beltre continues to shine in his first year with the ball club. The Red Sox have eight regular starters hitting over .270 currently. If the Red Sox can keep swinging the bat the way they are the Red Sox will eventually close in on that AL East top spot. Tampa Bay appears to be on its way out of the second spot after going 3-7 in their last ten games. After a series with the San Francisco Giants this weekend, the Red Sox can dispose of the Rays themselves with a two game series at Fenway beginning Tuesday.

The collegiate squads of Northeastern University and Boston College got a thrill facing the Boston Red Sox in a spring training exhibition. Manager Terry Francona told the media that he thought facing college teams was a better way to get ready for Grapefruit League than a inner-league scrimmage. The Red Sox were able to use a lot of pitches and get a lot of guys on the roster multiple at bats. David Ortiz hit a two-run homer against Northeastern for the Sox in route to a 15-0 win. Boston College scored a run on the Red Sox in the fifth inning of their match up thanks to a Spencer Payne single. The Red Sox kick off spring training competition on Friday against the Minnesota Twins.

The Red Sox fans as well as the management are waiting with utmost anticipation for their star slugger David Ortiz to announce his return to the squad after nursing a wrist injury and early signs reveal that July will be the ideal time for him to return to the big league as he would have fully recouped by then. The Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that the cast on the slugger’s left wrist has been removed and will be working on the motion exercises very shortly. The Red Sox will be rushing to get their tickets for the big league once they know that their favorite designated hitter Ortiz is playing in the team.

Nothing went well for the Red Sox in their game against the Baltimore Orioles. They squandered an eight-inning lead to their arch rivals and thereby lost the game 6-3. The worst part of their efforts resulted in their star designated hitter David Ortiz being placed on the 15 day disabled list due to a tendon tear on the left wrist. The Red Sox coach Terry Francona was visibly upset with the way his boys performed on the field during the game. The fans who bought tickets to watch the Red Sox perform in Baltimore were really upset about the loss.
