The Red Sox have all but sewn up the Wild Card race. But they keep getting delayed, last night by the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays brought their A-Game with and it was a fun game to watch. For us Red Sox fans, though, we could have used a different result. But that’s not so terrible. There aren’t too many teams on our heels and we’re far enough ahead that we don’t have to worry except if something goes desperately wrong. It’s going to be a great time, I promise you, and get ready for a big party this week. Will they clinch tonight or a little later in the week? Either way, we can wait!

After two big games in Kansas City, where they won by several runs each, the Red Sox are headed back into the world of the Bronx for a three game set. They are doing well and it looks like they might clinch over the weekend. They might even clinch before the Yankees officially have the division wrapped up. It’s only going to be a few days before they know for sure, but it’s exciting to see them in this position. In the right circumstances, we could see the Yankees take the division and the Red Sox take the Wild Card at exactly the same time. These two teams always play exciting and fun games, so we don’t need to worry about being bored over the weekend.

There is a little discussion today about whether it would even be worth it for the Red Sox to even go for the AL East title. Luckily, it’s kind of a moot point, since the East title is a wash right now. The Wild Card is much more likely for the Red Sox, if not a done deal. But if they were to get it, they would have home field advantage for the post season. But remember, the Red Sox are most likely heading to take on the Angels in the first round and people are generally agreed that the Red Sox will be much better in that series. The Red Sox are working their way forwards now with a probably Wild Card spot. It’ll be fun and they will probably get themselves nice and deep into the postseason. We love the Red Sox and we hope that the team will be able to win the World Series. Let’s see if they can do it this time around!

Daisuke Matsuzaka has come back to the Red Sox after awhile. He is a pitcher that the team has missed for quite awhile now and he will be expected to give his team some more normalcy over the next few weeks as the team expects to get into the Wild Card and hopefully further into the postseason. The re-addition of Matsuzaka will make this team improve again and give them some good pitching down the stretch. It’s remains to be seen whether he will have all his stuff at 100% by then, but it’s certainly possible! In any case, this team is a strong one and will be headed back into the playoffs, unless something really strange happens. They had an exciting come-from-behind win last night and they have all the big Mo, as they used to call it.

The AL Wild Card Magic Number is at 16 games now. Watch out, though, because the LA Angels are possibly on the way to taking over the Wild Card role this time. It’s always very exciting for us to see this team going on, and now we’re on the way to getting in the playoffs. The AL East looked very odd at the beginning of the season, with Toronto winning a lot at the beginning, but then falling off. Tampa Bay seemed like they might remain impressive into this season after having played in the World Series last year, but they have underperformed, mainly due to injuries and some player losses. It’s going to be great to see the Sox moving forward into the playoffs this year again. Hopefully they can unseat one of those other teams and then win it all.

The other night, Franconia told us that he wasn’t going to play Victor Martinez on Wednesday. It was time for him to get a break, although the player didn’t think so himself. He seemed like he was supposed to relax for a day or two. But then towards the end of the finale against the Orioles, the manager decided that he needed the big bat. He came in the seventh inning with the bases loaded as a pinch-hitter and hit a three-run double that gave them the lead and ultimately a 7-5 win. This gives us another boost on the way to being the winner of the AL Wild Card this year.

With the Red Sox seeming pretty firmly in charge of the Wild Card, the question will be who they end up playing first in the playoffs. The team might end up playing the Angels, who are looking like they will probably win the AL West. Or they might play the Tigers, who are in complete control of the Central. With the Tigers’ difficult strength in their lineup and rotation, it’s a really tough opponent to have. The Angels are in a less impressive division and have had a lot of trouble getting into the playoffs in recent years. And the Red Sox would be much higher up if they played in the AL West as opposed to the East. The East is a tough division (though not as tough as it was supposed to be) and this has held the Red Sox back.

The Red Sox are looking good in the postseason hunt this year. Their ace, Beckett, is having a bit of trouble at the moment. This is a team that looks like it’s going all the way to the end, and could do a good job of pushing the Yankees or Rangers in some of those series. It’s hard to imagine what’s going to happen this year for the Red Sox. After a rather rough year playing with injuries and players that they hadn’t expected to need, it’s going to be a big deal trying to get the team back into real shape for the playoffs. But if anyone can do it, it’s the Red Sox with their great strength and strong coaching staff. It’s going to be a lot of fun to watch and hopefully we can get yet another championship out of it!
