In last nights game against the Yankees Jacoby Ellsbury decided to steel home in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jacoby executed the difficult maneuver will almost no problem it then sent a rush of excitement into the Red Sox dugout and then crowed. To many surprise the steel was not one of managers Terry Francona’s idea. It was however, the pure instinct of the aggressive 25 year old Ellsbury. Jacoby was the first Red Sox player to steel home since Jose Offerman did on Aug. 30, 1999, against the Royals. No one else could have seen it better then J.D. Drew and Posada who was catching.

This weekend marks one of the great weekends in for baseball. A great rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees will be played out this weekend. New York was considering playing the distressed Chien-Ming Wang tonight against the BoSox, but since his ERA is sitting up at 32.5 or so, he will be benched while they decide what to ultimately do with him. Instead, they will be sending some of their best against our best and it’s going to be an exciting weekend of baseball up at Fenway! Are you ready to rock? Mark Teixeira is going to be a rather cool reception, we think, because he decided to go the NYC rather than Boston for this season. We’ll have to see what he’s able to bring to it this year, but hopefully he wont bring it this weekend at least.

This isn’t particularly good news, but any Red Sox fan should know about it. Jed Lowrie may have to miss a large part of the season with a left wrist injury. He might be out till July or may miss the whole season, depending on what kind of surgery he opts for ultimately. This is unfortunate news for him and for the team. He played through his injury last season, and didn’t realize the level of his injury until later. He batted amazingly in spring training but started having some real pain in the wrist at the end. He’s been to several specialists and a lot of trainers to help decide what kind of surgery he wants to have. This team is going to miss him and his replacement may also be slightly injured, but at least he’s on the upswing. Red Sox may have a long season ahead, but it’ll never be boring.

So far this season pitcher, Jon Lester has had a subpar performance. On Sunday that all turned around and Lester put on a dominate performance against the Orioles the lead the Red Sox to a 2-1 victory. Lester pulled off seven innings with only allowing four hits and two walks; he also had nine strike outs. This was an improvement to Lester’s first two losses when he was hammered for 18 hits and 11 runs over 11 innings. In the second inning Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis hit a leadoff double to open the inning and this allowed Mike Lowell to drive in a run with a single to right.

The Oakland Athletics are playing the BoSox in a series this week. Last night, the Athletics took us out by the score of 8-2. This especially nice for Athletics’ Nomar Garciaparra, who used to play for us up in Boston. But if we look at the Red Sox in the first week of play, we’ll notice that they are at the bottom of the AL East, with a record of 2-5. This is, admittedly, one of the toughest divisions this year, but no one expected the Sox to be that low in the rankings right now. We hope that they will pull it back, and with all the Spring Training distractions there have been this year, it’s not a big surprise to have the season start off a little most slowly, and they will be able to push forward into a real rhythm again. We’re looking forward to seeing the real Red Sox back soon!

The other night Josh Beckett came out on a roll when the Boston red Sox played the Tampa Bay Rays. This year Beckett plans on becoming the difference maker in all of the Red Sox games. There are some that say Beckett wasn’t always a 100 percent last year. However, this year Josh Beckett is coming in to the season feeling pretty good with good health. The other night against the Rays Beckett gave up only two hits and a run, also walked three and took down ten batters over seven innings. In all he throw 93 pitches for 61 strikes. On offense everything seemed to be going right since Dustin Podroia hammered a solo homer over the green monster.

This afternoon, the Red Sox will be playing their opening game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The game was supposed to be played yesterday, but we had some rain and so they decided that there was no particular reason to make people come out in a cold rain that could possibly turn into snow or sleet at any point. So they are playing at this very moment at Fenway, and they lead 1-0 at the moment. Boston will be hoping to get a bit of revenge against the Rays, who beat them in the ALCS last fall. They look pretty good so far. I haven’t found out yet if Sen. Kennedy threw out the opening pitch, because I missed that part of the game, but they were hoping to have him up there.

The Red Sox rotation, despite the loss of Schilling, will be a very impressive one this year as well. When the Red Sox take the field, they will have one of the best rotations in the league, as you well know. They have been dominant over the last few years and they will continue that trend this year as well, it seems. What about the other teams? The Rays and the Yankees will be very good teams this year as well, with several different great pitchers on the team that will give them a major chance to win it all again. Remember, they almost won the pennant last year and they are probably on their way to the playoffs again. If they win the championship, it wouldn’t really surprise anyone that much.
