Sean Casey played in a World Series about two short years ago. His team lost in five games and he decided if he could ever get back to the World Series again, he would. So he went and negotiated a one year $800,000 contract with the Red Sox in Boston. He wants that chance at winning as they did last year. On top of that, he is quite happy to be in even a supporting role for the team. So if the manager decides a player needs a rest day, he will send in Casey to play for him.
Casey told the media he has always wanted to play for Boston and he knew coming back to play for their team would get him a shot at being on the best team and winning the World Series again this year. His excitement was very contagious. He is also known as being quite popular among his peers and other baseball players.
He says he knows what he is getting into though and is ready to take the challenge. What it is really about is getting back on the field and bringing home the gold. He just wants more chance to do that. He has a batting average of 0.301 and over one hundred and thirty home runs.

The fans of the Red Sox can go either way in any given day. They will rejoice over a win and go into a deep depression over a loss. In 2005, the Red Sox offered their fans a different kind of membership card. They were called the Official Red Sox Nation Citizens. These fans also got access to merchandise and upgrading of their seats. They also received great fan packs at some games if they could show their membership cards. The fan club is spreading all over the US and in some parts of Canada.
Besides the Yankees, the Red Sox are the second largest spending baseball team out there. The Dodges were third, and then came the Mets and Cubs. Fenway Park is in need of repair; hopefully some of that money can go to repairing it.
Javier Lopez was in talks with the Red Sox and came away with an $840,000 one year contract to play. Their first basemen are still in talks about salary. Kevin Youkilis is asking for 3.8 million. He was offered 2.5 million. Their relief pitcher, Kyle Snyder wanted 1 million and he was offered 725,000. So these players are holding out for more money. Fans wonder how it will affect their next season.
